What is ADIP?

The Australian Digital Infrastructure Platform is Vocus’ multi-year investment in intercapital, metro and subsea fibre infrastructure. It will deliver thousands of new fibre kilometres and fibre pairs and hundreds of terabits of capacity across new and existing routes.

Australia needs more fibre capacity. We’re building it. By 2030, Australia’s data centre capacity is projected to triple, with AI workloads expected to drive 85–95% of long-haul fibre demand. On the Sydney–Melbourne corridor alone, which carries around 40% of Australia’s long-haul data traffic, demand is forecast to outstrip supply without new investment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about ADIP including network capacity, future expansion plans and infrastructure design.

The Australian Digital Infrastructure Platform (ADIP) is a multi-year initiative designed to expand Australia's fibre capacity and support growing demand from AI, cloud computing, data centres and digital services.

Vocus intends to build and operate a new fibre route connecting Sydney and Melbourne using ducted infrastructure technology that enables future capacity expansion without major service disruption.

The Sydney-Melbourne corridor carries approximately 40% of Australia's long-haul data traffic and is one of the country's most important digital infrastructure routes.

The Sydney-Melbourne ducted fibre route is designed to accommodate up to 6,912 fibre cores, equivalent to 3,456 fibre pairs.

ADIP is designed to provide scalable fibre infrastructure via a ducted design that supports AI workloads, cloud platforms, hyperscale connectivity and data centre interconnection requirements.

The Sydney-Melbourne ducted fibre route is planned to be ready for service in 2029.

The Brisbane-Darwin fibre route is a new ducted long-haul fibre route being built by Vocus to connect Brisbane and Darwin via Townsville. It will cover approximately 4,000 kilometres and accommodate up to 3,456 fibre strands. The route will provide an additional high-capacity pathway across northern Australia, supporting cloud providers, AI infrastructure, government networks, data centres and enterprise connectivity requirements.

The Brisbane-Townsville-Darwin ducted fibre route is expected to become available from 2030.

The Sydney-Melbourne fibre network is the first project being delivered under the Australian Digital Infrastructure Platform (ADIP). ADIP is a long-term digital infrastructure initiative by Vocus designed to support Australia's future fibre capacity requirements through ongoing investment in network growth and expansion. Future infrastructure opportunities will be assessed as demand for AI, cloud, data centre and digital services continues to evolve.
