Frequently Asked Questions
Technical answers to common questions for IT, network, and security teams about Vocus DDoS Detect & Protect.
DDoS Detect & Protect is a network‑based distributed denial‑of‑service detection and mitigation service delivered within the Vocus Internet network. It monitors internet traffic at Vocus ingress points and filters malicious traffic upstream before it reaches the customer service. This approach helps protect availability without requiring on‑premises mitigation hardware.
Traffic is monitored by a Threat Detection System across domestic and international ingress points on the Vocus network. When a DDoS event is identified, mitigation is applied using RTBH filtering or traffic scrubbing, depending on the selected service tier, to remove malicious traffic before it impacts the customer’s connection.
DDoS Detect provides monitoring, alerting, and manual per‑incident mitigation when an attack is identified. DDoS Detect + Protect includes automatic DDoS scrubbing, enabling mitigation to occur without waiting for manual intervention, which can reduce disruption during high‑volume attacks.
Mitigation is delivered within the Vocus Internet network using Threat Prevention System infrastructure located across ANZ, Asia, and the USA. This distributed architecture provides large‑scale scrubbing capacity and supports mitigation closer to where attacks enter the network.
No. DDoS Detect & Protect is a network‑level service delivered within the Vocus Internet network. No additional customer‑premises mitigation hardware is required. Access to reporting and event history is provided via a browser‑based DDoS portal for applicable tiers.
The service operates only in conjunction with Vocus Internet services and is not available on third‑party internet connections. Protection is delivered across the Vocus network infrastructure as part of the internet service.
Vocus Internet over Fibre includes a 99.95% SLA, with a specific 99.95% SLA for the DDoS Protect tier. Support is available 24/7 x 365, with direct access to the Vocus Network Operations Centre and specialist engineers for DDoS‑related incidents.
