The Communications Alliance last night recognised Vocus for our LEO satellite solutions and longhaul fibre innovation at the 2024 ACOMM Awards ceremony held in Sydney.
The Australian Space Industry Award recognises Vocus’ achievements in providing satellite communications or satellite/space-related products and services in the Australian space industry.
Vocus CEO, Ellie Sweeney was honoured to accept the Innovation – Large Company Award and Australian Space Industry Award and thanked a large team across the country who worked tirelessly to make these significant achievements a reality.
Ellie said: “This important industry recognition of the work, creativity, and commitment of the Vocus team highlights that our guiding purpose – Building Critical Connections. Enabling Better Possibilities – is helping us make a real difference in connecting Australia to the world and supporting the nation’s digital future.”
Vocus has been a pioneer in enabling low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity in Australia, operating more LEO ground stations than any other provider, with our fibre network underpinning Australia’s LEO infrastructure.
In the past twelve months, we have focussed on building solutions around LEO satellite services that amplify the benefits of the technology for Australians. These include combining satellite connectivity with drones, LTE, and bonding technology, delivering entirely new capabilities to defence, disaster relief, emergency services, national security and intelligence.
These solutions have set a benchmark for service and customer experience in the satellite sector, delivering tangible benefits to the Australian community.
With a network strategy that spans land, sea and space, the Innovation – Large Company Award recognises our efforts to reshape Australia’s longhaul connectivity landscape when we switched on the first international fibre-optic cable into Darwin, cementing Australia’s North as a new entry point for international data and establishing Darwin as a key digital hub for the Asia Pacific.
In July 2023, the new Darwin-Jakarta-Singapore Cable (DJSC) was launched, linking Vocus’ existing North-West Cable System from Darwin to Port Hedland with our Australia Singapore Cable (ASC) from Perth to Singapore, enabling low-latency connectivity between Australia’s North and Asia.
We have also undertaken strategic upgrades to our intercapital network infrastructure, deploying the latest 800Gbps and 1.6Tbps technology to provide customers with speed, reliability and cost efficiency.
Our longhaul fibre network is purpose-built and managed for business and government, facilitating seamless access to cloud services and enabling businesses to leverage AI technologies to drive growth, innovation, and competitiveness.
