Ellie Sweeney, Vocus Chief Operating Officer, speaks at CommsDay Summit 2021

We're pleased to be a major sponsor of the CommsDay Summit 2021. Each year, the Australian telecommunications industry gathers to address the business, policy, and technology opportunities and challenges for telcos. We're thrilled to take part and have some of our leaders speak as part of the program.

Ellie Sweeney, Vocus Chief Operating Officer, spoke on day one of the event. She discussed the completion of Vocus' three-year turnaround and the move into a new stage of investment, including Project Horizon, the largest single telecommunications infrastructure project seen in Australia’s north west since the completion of the North-West Cable System.

Project Horizon will provide a 2,000-kilometre network of new and existing fibre between Port Hedland in Western Australia, where the Vocus North West Cable System from Darwin lands, to Perth, via Newman, Meekatharra, and Geraldton, the end of the Vocus terrestrial network, closing the final gap in Vocus' national fibre network.

Ellie also addressed the growing requirement for network security and sovereignty of critical infrastructure assets, with the proposed acquisition by MIRA and Aware Super cementing Vocus’ credentials as an Australian backed and operated secure network provider.
