Delivering Enhanced Capability for NBN Aggregation
Posted on July 03, 2017
Vocus Communications has extended the capability of its NBN Network Connect product, fulfilling what we see as a major requirement for wholesale customers in the Australian market.
Vocus’ NBN Ethernet Bitstream (NEBS) equivalent service now includes highly-demanded support for the IPoE protocol, adding to its existing support for PPPoE protocol.
“This is a big win for our wholesale customers” said Michael Simmons, Chief Executive, Enterprise and Wholesale at Vocus. “Instead of connecting end customers using the PPPoE protocol, RSPs need the ability to connect their customers exactly the way they would if connected directly to NBN Co via IPoE or PPPoE.”
Vocus was one of the first providers to offer a wholesale NBN aggregation product by utilising the Vocus national fibre network to connect to all 121 NBN POIs. “This is a logical extension of that product” said Michael Simmons.
“Although our existing capability does a great job of servicing one part of the retail service provider (RSP) market, there was a gap for emerging RSPs that do not have ADSL customers and needed an aggregation product that best replicated NBN’s Ethernet Bit stream product.”
Migrations are an important part of the wholesale market and with this release Vocus’ wholesale customers can continue providing services on existing modems that have been delivered to end users on NBN’s interim POIs when they migrate to new POIs.
“These changes will have a positive impact for our wholesale customers – minimising any process or cost impacts during the migration process.” said Michael Simmons.
