Closing the loop – Nextgen Networks
Posted on July 13, 2016
We’re thrilled to announce our plans to acquire the fibre assets of Nextgen Networks to significantly boost the Vocus fibre network.
Nextgen operates one of Australia’s largest fibre backhaul networks which traverses 17,000km of fibre connecting capital cities and major regional areas. In addition, the Nextgen network offers interconnects to 70 data centres, and with a small capital spend, access to 112 of the 121 points of interconnect for the National Broadband Network (NBN).
Vocus CEO Geoff Horth stated, “The acquisition of Nextgen Networks, one of Australia’s largest national fibre backhaul networks, provides Vocus with the missing piece in our existing infrastructure network,”
“Owning this critical infrastructure will allow Vocus to connect its metropolitan infrastructure to Nextgen Networks’ inter-capital fibre optic network, thereby connecting mainland capital cities to regional and remote areas on one owned network.”
Invaluable connectivity to meet demand
In addition to the considerable fibre backhaul network, the acquisition will also include the North West Cable System between Darwin and Port Hedland and the Australian Singapore Cable, which is proposed to connect Perth to Singapore via an extensive undersea fibre connection.
The acquisition comes at an exciting time for Vocus as we consolidate our position in market and work to challenge the way that telcos are viewed in market.
The deal will be finalised in the coming months with the acquisition expected at the end of Q1 FY17.
