We’re committed to doing the right thing by our customers and all others we touch across our value chain
At Vocus, we believe connectivity should enable potential.
We are proud of our fibre networks and the connectivity they provide, but we are also aware that, globally, the data centre industry is predicted to emit 2.5 billion tons of emissions through 2030, and that telecommunications networks are resource-intensive to build, operate and maintain. It’s therefore critical that we take decisive climate action, and in doing so, enable better possibilities for our people, our customers and our society.
Where are we now?
In 2022 we announced a target to achieve net zero emissions across our operations (scope 1+2) by the end of calendar year 2025 (mid-FY26). Since then, we have been working to reduce our underlying scope 2 emissions by consolidating our data centre footprint and pursuing energy efficiency and abatement opportunities right across our business.
We have implemented efficiency measures that reduced emissions within our data centres by 18.3% throughout FY23-24, exceeding our FY23-25 reduction goal of 15%. By the end of FY24 we had also reduced our overall scope 1+2 emissions by 38.7%, from an FY19 baseline. Behind the scenes we have also been working to assess and mitigate our climate risks and quantify our scope 3 emissions.
Where to from here?
Since setting our climate targets we have also pursued our growth ambitions. As of August 1, 2025, we acquired TPG’s enterprise, government and wholesale fixed business and fibre network assets. This transaction has doubled the size of our business. While this represents enormous opportunities for our business, it has materially changed the scope of our operations, and therefore our carbon emissions footprint and boundary, meaning we are no longer in a position to achieve our stated targets. Moving forward, our immediate focus is on integrating our new assets, so that we can re-baseline and reset our climate targets for our merged entity by the end of FY26.
Next steps
We are committed to achieving net zero emissions and maintaining momentum towards this goal. Throughout FY26 we will identify and quantify decarbonisation opportunities across our expanded emissions footprint, so we can set a new scope 1, 2 and 3 net zero target by the end of the financial year. When reviewing our net zero pathway, we will focus on maximising direct emissions reductions as our top priority.
Managing our impacts
At Vocus, caring for the environment is part of how we do business. We’re committed to minimising our impact and continually improving the way we operate.
