Vocus is thrilled to have been awarded the Best Sustainability Initiative in the CommsDay Edison Awards 2023, held in Sydney.

The judging panel recognised Vocus’ major investment in our Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) program, including our progress in reducing our overall scope 1 and 2 emissions in 2022, towards our goal, set in October 2022, of achieving net zero emissions across our operations (scope 1 and 2) in 2025.

In the lead up, we’re working to minimise our underlying energy use as much as possible. So far, we have reduced our overall scope 1 and 2 emissions by 13% from our FY19 baseline year.

This progress has been driven by several factors, including energy efficiency initiatives undertaken within our data centres, consolidation of several data centre assets, and changes in state-based emissions factors as a result of the decarbonisation of the Australian energy grid.

Throughout FY23 we have continued to roll out energy saving initiatives across our data centres in Western Australia, New South Wales and Victoria to ensure we can operate our facilities in the most efficient manner possible.

A watershed year for ESG at Vocus

In addition to our net zero commitments, 2022 was a watershed year for Vocus in our wider Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) program.

While we have consistently taken a socially conscious approach to the way we conduct our business, 2022 saw a new level of organisational maturity in our ESG practice.

We are proud of our highlights for the year, as shared in our FY22 Environmental, Social & Governance Report. Highlights include:

• Reducing our overall Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 13% from our FY19 baseline
• Launching our FY23-25 Workplace Health and Safety strategy
• Decreasing our 5-year Rolling Total Recorded Injury Frequency Rate for the fourth year in a row
• Increasing representation of women on our Board to 80%
• Introducing and delivering on our FY22 Modern Slavery Action Plan
• Introducing a Supplier Code of Conduct, and embedded ESG principles within our Procurement Policy
• Becoming a member of Supply Nation.
