Case study: DevelopmentWA

How we helped a state government agency improve communication across its organisation.

DevelopmentWA required a scalable telephony system, with a flexible cost model, simple management, and the right features to help teams communicate more efficiently.

Industry: Western Australia's state government development agency
Solution: Vocus Modern Communications

  • Scalable telephony system
  • Simple management
  • Ability to manage calls from one location across offices

  • Integrated IP Telephony system with state-of-the-art handsets across all offices
  • Central management through easy-to-use online interface

A solution that scales.

As the Western Australian Government's land and property development arm, DevelopmentWA focuses on delivery of sustainable developments across the state to secure economic and social prosperity.

DevelopmentWA used an older stand-alone Siemens PABX that was located in the head office in Perth CBD. The PABX system was unmanaged and maintenance had become increasingly problematic and costly. With the growth of DevelopmentWA and the expansion into two new office locations, it became clear they needed a solution with more functionality that could continue to grow with them and seamlessly join all offices.

Most importantly, DevelopmentWA required a flexible cost model without a heavy upfront cost commitment. They also needed a host of new features to help everyone in the organisation communicate more efficiently.

Getting things right the first time, every time

To ensure optimal performance and value for money, DevelopmentWA selected a Vocus Unified Communications solution to take their legacy communications to the next level.

"We’ve maintained a fantastic relationship with Vocus for our data services over the past five years and when they tendered for the project, they had clearly listened to what we required as an organisation and were the obvious choice.”

Vocus Unified Communications offered a cost-effective way for DevelopmentWA to deliver their communications requirements, including;

  • An integrated IP Telephony system with state-of-the-art handsets across all offices
  • Centralised receptionist functionality
  • Ability to divert and manage calls from a single location across multiple offices
  • Central management through a simple online user interface.

DevelopmentWA staff often work across different offices with many having two desks and two landline numbers. With the introduction of the Vocus Unified Communications system, all numbers within the organisation could now be directed, forwarded or setup to dual ring at any location within the business.

Why did DevelopmentWA have to say about us?

“Throughout the entire project we worked as a partnership, Vocus' willingness to help solve our problems and respond to ad-hoc requests has shaped our relationship."

Mr Roland

The changeover

The most concerning time for DevelopmentWA was porting their number range from their legacy system. Vocus provided DevelopmentWA with a 10-strong project management team to ensure the switch was made quickly and efficiently and ensured a smooth transition.

"Prior to the implementation of Vocus' Unified Communications solution, I had no idea the breadth of features that were available and the difference they would make to the working environment,” says Roland. “They were not part of our original requirements and did not cost extra, they are simply part of the solution."

"I have been really impressed with the standard of service we received from Vocus and their unfailing commitment to getting things right the first time, every time. Would I choose Vocus again? Absolutely."

"We began the process on the Friday night and by the Saturday morning the phones were operational with all numbers verified, for almost 300 handsets," Roland explains.
