Connor Taylor started at Vocus at the age of 17. Fresh out of high school, Connor was excited about starting his career at a young age and wanted to be in a workplace that focused on growth while inspiring its people to be the best versions of themselves.
His first role was an entry level position doing data network support. Over time, he realised that business analysis was what he wanted to pursue. He began to have conversations with his peers internally to learn about the team, the role, and if it would be the right fit for him.
Fast forward to today, Connor followed through on that path and now works as an Associate Business Analyst, based in Perth. A big part of his role is to identify business areas that can be improved to increase efficiency and strengthen existing processes.
We sat down with Connor to hear about his perspective of life at Vocus.
Connor: I was certainly younger than most of my peers, but Vocus was supportive at every step of the way to ensure I felt included. I was excited to learn new skills and I felt like I was part of the team from day one.
Connor: When I joined in 2018, there wasn’t a formal program for early talent. However, Vocus is launching their first Graduate Program in 2023. It will be a two-year rotational program where recent graduates can get gain hands-on experience across three different teams. It’s really exciting to see the business invest in the future of early talent.
Connor: Once you start in a role, you are not locked in. You have the freedom to explore other departments that may be of more interest. I have moved around roles, and if I wanted to pursue other areas of the business in the future, that would be supported internally. I’ve had various leaders recommending positions to me over the years and encouraging my personal growth. This really makes me feel like my career is supported here at Vocus.
Connor: The primary project I am working on at the moment is called RPA (Robotics Process Automation). A big part of this project is to eliminate any tedious or repetitive tasks that many departments may encounter, which will ultimately save time for employees and the business.
Connor: Yes – the flexibility in my role is incredible, I essentially make my own schedule.
Connor: My advice would be to choose an organisation that prioritised learning, development and career growth. At this stage of your career, you want to be a sponge and learn as much as possible. At Vocus, there are various departments that may suit your interests, and plenty of opportunities for growth once you get started.
