Vocus and Amcom set to shake up telco market.
Posted on July 09, 2015
Vocus Communications is set to provide a major shake-up of the traditional Australian telco market after completing its largest acquisition to date with the purchase of Amcom, a major provider of telco and IT services headquartered in Perth, Western Australia.
The newly formed $1.2 billion telecommunications challenger is already positioning itself to offer Australian and New Zealand businesses a better alternative to the traditional big telcos.
Vocus Communications CEO, James Spenceley, explains: "There are great synergies between Amcom and Vocus - we're both fast moving businesses who believe telecommunications should be easy, networks should be fast and dependable, and customer experience should be outstanding."
Spenceley adds: "We're here to challenge the market status quo and provide Australian businesses with a telco provider that is willing to do things differently and push the limits. We're here to offer choice."
Creating an end-to-end network
Amcom's extensive network assets are the perfect addition to Vocus' East Coast and New Zealand assets. The combined infrastructure creates one of the largest end-to-end networks in Australia and New Zealand.
"Our customers can now connect to the Vocus network from any Australian city, and remain connected to our network throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Because we build, own, and manage the network, we can provide customers with a direct, better managed, and controlled service compared with using a patch-work of carriers," Spenceley says.
Vocus now owns and maintains in excess of 11,000 km of fibre throughout Australia and New Zealand. It can connect almost every Australian CBD building to its network, and is the largest trans-Tasman network infrastructure provider. It also owns significant international capacity to the USA, Hong Kong and Singapore, where it has several points of presence.
In addition to network services, Vocus owns and maintains 22 data centres throughout the ANZ region.
Expanded product offering
"We're always looking for new ways to work with our customers to solve their business challenges, and the acquisition of Amcom has significantly enhanced our capability and experience in delivering unified communications, managed services, cloud and security solutions."
Vocus Communications looks after 3,000 clients, employs 600 staff throughout Australia and New Zealand, and has more than 20 offices.
