After graduating from the University of Wollongong with a double degree in Arts and International Studies, and working 9 years in the hospitality industry, Jacqueline decided to join the Vocus Graduate Program.
Not knowing much about the telecommunications industry, Jacqueline was interested in extending her knowledge into this space, and knew she wanted to gain hands-on experience in a large and ever-evolving industry.
“I was eager to start my career off in a stimulating and diverse environment that would give me the opportunity for professional growth. The strong focus that Vocus had on their values and culture, as well as their commitment to customer service, is what drew me in.”
The Vocus Graduate Program aims to provide a good breadth and depth of experience across three rotations over two years, allowing graduates to experience different areas of the company and gain real, hands-on experience.
Jacqueline has just started her third rotation within the Graduate Program, since starting in early 2023. Her first rotation was in Strategic Projects, second as Document Controller in Federal Government, and her third was Project Coordinator in Federal Government. In these roles, Jacqueline has had the opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of tasks in some of our largest projects, acquire a deeper understanding of the Telco industry through mentoring from industry professionals, and gain valuable insight into our Federal Government customers.
“One thing I love about Vocus is the positive and supportive environment - everyone is very welcoming and eager to hear your thoughts and input. Vocus is a challenger and people are always striving to achieve their best, but they also want to see you succeed – this is a huge benefit as a graduate and being able to have this support behind you is fantastic.”
Jacqueline has been able to develop herself professionally by being able to work on real business problems, tackle impactful projects and learn from mentors, industry professionals and peers. “I’m grateful that the Graduate Program has provided so many opportunities for professional development across multiple areas within Vocus. I have had the chance to shadow industry professionals and get provided with hands-on experience and training.”
Jacqueline expressed an interest in ESG (Environment, Social and Governance), and put her hand up to be involved in Vocus’ Diversity and Belonging Committee, which has several streams running to promote a diverse and inclusive culture at Vocus. Jacqueline has been able to influence volunteering days, raise awareness of cultural and gender diversity, and learn more about the company’s commitment to get to NetZero by 2025.
So what comes next for Jacqueline? “I am excited for what comes after the Graduate Program - I can’t wait to put the knowledge and experience I have gained during these last two years to good use in a permanent position. I am also very excited to see how Vocus implements Artificial Intelligence, and where Vocus is going to go in that space.”
